I started writing this book thinking I would tell my story, hit the big moments, and tie it up with a clean lesson. That is not what happened. Writing it turned into a reckoning. I ran into old beliefs, buried pain, and a lot of things I had packed away for years. My memory is not a neat timeline. It is a mix of people, places, smells, songs, and emotions.

I am not trying to make any of this look polished. I wrote from the place I used to hide, and I chose emotional truth over looking good, even when it gets messy, complicated, or embarrassing.

If you’ve ever wanted to be understood but didn’t trust anyone with the full truth…

Craig Sawyer

Man with a beard and short hair, wearing a dark blue shirt, holding a microphone in his right hand, sitting on a stage during a talk or panel discussion.
A middle-aged man with a beard and short hair, wearing a light blue button-up shirt, is speaking or giving a presentation against a dark background with purple lights.

Craig Sawyer is originally from Champaign, IL, but is now living in Cape Coral, FL. Still learning, like the rest of us, how to carry a past without letting it take the wheel.

A former U.S. Marine (1999–2005), Craig knows what it’s like to run on grit, discipline, and sheer willpower… until the day you realize those same strengths can become armor. And armor is heavy. These days, he works in the world of self-reflection: speaking, coaching, and listening for what people don’t say out loud: the pause after a question, the laugh that shows up too fast, the story someone tells when they’re trying not to feel the truth underneath it.

He’s certified in positive psychology, neuroscience, and relationships, but he’s not building a brand around being anyone’s guru. He’s building trust by being real. Craig’s work is for people who look “fine” on the outside but feel the quiet strain of carrying old shame, old roles, old survival strategies and who are ready to stop repeating patterns they didn’t choose.

Off the page, Craig is the Senior Broker of Sawyer Health Solutions (a Health/Life insurance agency), helps run his wife’s art studio Pineapple Picasso, plays drums, and writes whenever life gives him the room.

Health & Life Insurance

Across all of his work, there is one consistent focus: helping people feel seen and supported in real life, not just in theory. Insurance protection helps people prepare for the practical side of life, including medical costs, family security, and financial stability when the unexpected happens. Coaching and speaking support the personal side, including self awareness, emotional resilience, and the courage to face what is true without pretending life is neat or easy. Together, these services reflect the same philosophy: tell the truth, address what matters, and build something stronger one honest step at a time.

The right health and life insurance protection offers more than a policy, it offers peace of mind. Health coverage helps reduce the stress of unexpected medical costs and supports access to routine and preventive care. Life insurance provides a financial safety net for loved ones by helping cover major expenses if the unexpected happens. In short, the right protection helps people feel more secure and prepared for the future.

What Changed You?” isn’t your everyday podcast.

Each episode sits down with everyday people and pulls back the curtain on the moments that shaped them. The sentence someone said that stuck, the decision that split life into before and after, the relationship that taught them what love isn’t, the loss that forced them to grow, the realization that finally broke the cycle.

Because we’re all built by our environment, our relationships, and the choices we make when nobody’s watching. Brick by brick. Sometimes the structure becomes strength, success, and peace. Sometimes it becomes armor. Or anxiety. Or a life that looks fine on the outside but feels empty on the inside.

Craig listens for the hidden wiring underneath the story. The needs we don’t say out loud. The protective patterns we mistake for personality. The moment we stopped trusting. The moment we decided we weren’t enough. And the thread he keeps finding? We all want the same thing: to feel seen. Not noticed. Not judged. Seen.

Coming soon: “What Changed You?” The podcast that gets to the moment everything changed.
